Obama was asked about the proposed Balanced Budget Amendment in his Friday press conference. Obama simply was unable to tell the truth, in full campaign/Liar-in-Chief mode.
First, Obama ignored that a Balanced Budget Amendemnt is faovred--in every poll--by 70% or more of the public. Sure, that poll is pretty much neaningless, but so is the poll SELECTED by Obama to USE as an "argument" that Republicans should listen to the public. Exactly when, again, has Obama "listened to the public"? He has always said that he does ot governn by polls (when a poll is against him),but obviusly he wants to convince Republicans THEY should. Even for Obama, though, it is rather amazing to see him rely on a supposed poll to hammer Republicans n one brath, and then almost in the next greath to IGNORE the polls on the Balanced Budget Amendment. But it gets far worse..
This is what Obama actually said on the Balanced Budget Amendment, and I still don't believe it (but I heard it): "We need to do our duty without wqiting for that kind of thing. The Consitution already requires us to live within our means (lol), and the idea tthat we need a Constitutional Amendment to make us do our duty is absurd." (not verbatim, but pretty close).
Say what? Obama has been in Congreess, or President, since 2004. He has NEVER proposed either a balanced budget OR a concrete plan to balance the budget in a limited period of time. He has never even proposed spending lower than the previous year. Obama, in his press conference, admitted VIOLATING HIS DUTY--in additon to lying about the Federal Government being required to "live within its means". The man (Obama) simply is incapble of telling the truth.
What about this "big deal" Obama wants? ............. Sorrry. I had to compose myself after rolling on the floor with laughter. The man really is a comic genius. First, Obama has NEVER put on paper a SPECIFIC paln. His only specifics are TAX INCREASES. That, we know he wants, so he can SPEND some more. What Obama wants is for OTHER PEOPLE to put togeter a "big deal" using numbers Obama picks out of the air. There is not even a pretense that such a "deal' will actually lead to a balanced budget in TEN YEARS (a Consitutional Amendment would either be law by then--approved by the states--or it would have died). ObamaCare alone is going to make a balanced budget impossible, unless repealed, and it is impossible now to even make a good guess at how much ObamaCare is going to cost. The spending "cuts" are going to be all smoke and mirrors--not to take effet until the FAR Future, and even then nothing but vague promises based on nothing LEGALLY BINDING (in contrast to the tax increases, which are intended to be binding).
It is simply absurd to say that we don't "need" a Constitutional Amendment to make the people in Washington "do their duty". OBAMA needs a Constitutional Amendment to make HIM do his duty. The important part of a Constitutional Amendment is to LIMIT SPENDING, as a percentage of GDP, and that could actually be effective. It is the ONLY thing that will caue someone like Obama (Obama himself will be long gone, as will almost every person in Congress trying to convince you we can do a Soviet Union style "ten year plan") to actually move toward a balanced budget/spending limit.
What Obama said was truly RIDICULOUS. He actually had the NERVE to say that a Consitutional Amendment would not go into effect until the far future, while we "need to solve this problem NOW". (empahsis his). . If you will say something like that, you will say anything. Obama wll say anything. That is his whole approach to this debt problemm. He wants to SAY the problem is "solved" with a TEN YEAR PLAN that will never happen (on the spending cut side). This is NOT "solving" the problem. It is simply waving a magic wand and SAYNG the problem is "solved"---Obama's approach to every proble,m. Obama is still going around saying that we "have to live within our means, like normal families". Again, if you will say someting that obviously a LIE (as to your real position), then you wil lsay AnYTHING.
Nope. Obama trly is LIAR-IN-CHIEF, and nothing shows it more than those ridiculous comments on the proposed Balanced Budget Amendment.
"But Skip, you RIDICULED the emphasis the Republicans have put on the Balanced Budget Amendment." Indeed I have, correctly. I will eat my words on that ONLY if Republicans succeed inforcing the Amendment to be PASSED in through Congress and sent to the states. I have said tha I faovr a Constitutional Amendment limiting spending, and I do. The present Republican Amendment poposed in Congress, to my understanding, does that, and I support it. However, it is a FANTASY. It takes a 2/3 vote in BOTH the Senate and the House, and that is not gong to happen. As I say, i will eat my words if I am wrong, so long as Republicans accept what I am going to do to them if I am RIGHT (and they cave not only on this but on the more realistic goal of CUTTING SPENDING this next year, without raising taxes). Further, I agree with Oama that the Balanced Budget Amendment would NOT "solve" our debt cirfis. It would not CUT a SINGLE DIME until at least 8 years from now. I support it, but with my eyes open. This country could be DESTROYED by the time a Balanced Budget Amendment acteually went into effect. The Obama LIE is that he is proposing anything different. Almot all of his SPENDING CUTS will not take place for ten years or so.
The only SPENDING this Congress can really control, short of actually doiing an IMMEIDATE restructuring of government programs like Medicare that the Republlicans are not even proposing, is NEXT YER'S SPENDING. We need to CUT at least 10% from the Federal Government SPENDING for NEXT YEAR. Even the Republicans are proposing to cut LESS THAN 3%--and I ma not sure that is from THIS YEAR'sS AMOUNT or from projected spending. Obama does not propose to "cut' ANY spending from next year, unless you count things like ALREADY SCHEDULED withdrawal of military forces from Iraq and Afghanistan (which assumes that we will not end up in another war, such as Libya, Syria or Iran, and that we don't have to reverse course yet again in either Iraq or Afghanistan). This talk of ten years from now is all a FRAUD. It is especailly a fraud with Obama, but it is even pretty much a fraud with Republicans.
Balanced Budget Amendment? Ignore what Obama says. he is Liar-in-Cheif. Do it WHEN YOU HAVE THE VOTGES. Try to avoid a sham vote, where Democrats who don't really favor it vote for it anyway, knowing it will fail. But CUT SPENDING this NEXT YEAR , and tghe year aftger that (the next spending bills being due n the summer of next year, for the fsical year beginning on Octobver 1,2102). I know spending bills have not yet been done for the year beginning TIS October 1, but they SHOULD have been, and should be the focus of Republican efforts. What Republicans MUST not do is let Obama SAY that he has entered into some sort of "big deal" that has "solved" the lproblem of our debt, and that therefore Republicans CANNOT CUT the budget for fiscal year 2012 and 2013 (beginnng October 1,2011 and October 1, 2102 respectively). As previously statedin this blog, that BETRAYAL will cause me to walk completely away forom the Republican Party FOREVER. I did walk away from McCain, and I am more than ready to walk away from the entire party. Talk of all of these TRILLIONS of "cuts" over the next TEN YERS is nothing but a SHAM. if Republicans go along with it, they are toast. Obama's other goal here, of course, is to avoid the fight on extending the Bush tax cuts that looms for NEXT SUMMER. Republicans need to hold their gournd on that, and I think they know it. But they do NOT seem to know that they need to hold their ground on REAL SPENDING CUTS NOW. If they don't,, God help them. I won't.
P.S. No proofreading or spell checking (bad eyesight). By the way, did you notice that this blog was PROVEN right again on what you might think is the most unlilkely assertion on which this blog could be PROVEN right. This blog has told you that Obama--domestically, and even with many parts of his foreign policy--is in themiddle of BUSH'S THIRD TERM. Notice that OBAMA confiremed that he had the same opinion, by saying that most of the officials of the BUSH ADMINISTRATION support Obama on this debt/deficit/tax fight. Now Obama is a liar, and therefore you can't rely on what he says. But this does indicate that OBAMA thinks he is in the midst of Bush's Thrid Term, and that he is much closer to the Bush Administration than CONSERVATIVES are to the Bush Administration. I, by the way, DISOWNED the Bush Administration in 2006. Obama, in contrast, was SUPPORTING all of the spending and bailouts of the Bush Administration/Democrats frm 2004 through 2008, as a member of Congress, ecept to the extent Obama wanted MORE SPENDING than Bush.
