The news this morning in El Paso is that the violence in Mexico, created by warring drug cartels who appear to be the main power in the country, is totally out of control.
Juarez, Mexico (across the Rio Grande from where I am typing this--no more than 5 miles away) is now officially as bad as Bagdad, Iraq. It is almost certainly the most dangerous city in the world, or at least on a level with whatever other large cities are in the running.
"At least" (mainstream media term here) 19 people were murdered in Juarez since last Friday. One woman shooting victim was found lying dead in the streets. To call Mexico a "failed country" is becoming an understatement.
Yet, I would be willing to bet there was no talk about the violence in Mexico in last night's debate. I would be willing to bet that Brokaw chose no question about Mexico's violence. I would even bet there were no significant questions about illegal immigration and controlling our borders. If there were a question on that, I am 100% certain that Obama and McCain did not talk about the implosion in Mexico--much less how our failure to handle illegal immigration is a large factor in our economic problems. I am sure you got nothing but vague platitudes, if any question on immigration even came up.
The disconnect between the American people--not to mention reality--and the elites in this country is becoming beyond extreme.
