McCain vs. Obama: Wall Street Bailout Lessons

Obama is the most dangerous (to the country) figure I have ever seen in American politics. He is a man with leftist instincts of the very far left (ACORN--"community organizers, hate monger and mentor Reverend Wright, mentor and Weather Underground terrorist William Ayers, Harvard, Chicago leftist politics, etc.).

 

However, there is not much to Obama beyond those far left instincts arising out of his background.  He mainly seems to be a man of words, with very little else to him.  He has never accomplished anything in his life other than win political office, and he has accomplished little in political office.  Obama seems all about symbol, and politics, and not about substance.  He preaches "reacing across the aisle", but has never done so.  He preaches against corrupt special interests, but has aligned himself with some of the most corrupt special interests of all time (Chicago leftist machine, ACORN, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac--sources of hundreds of thousands in campaign donations, MoveOn.org.--where Obama supported its trashing of General Petraeus by attacking Petraeus and failing to condemn MoveOn.org,, etc.).  The fact that the special interests Obama has supported, and which have supported him, are mainly leftist special interests is no credit to Obama. There are even indications that Obama's success in raising incredible amounts of small sums, while rejecting pubic financing, has concealed vast corruption.  It turns out that contributions under $200.00 do not have to be reported by name, like contributions over that amount.  That opens the door to enormous chicanery in contributions under $200.00  There are allegations that foreign money and multiple evasions of campaign funding laws are being concealed in the massive Obama contributions under $200.00. Obama forces have been trying to suppress free speech by threatening prosecution (especially in Missouri) of people putting out, and media outlets running, anti-Obama ads.  This includes the NRA.   Further, Obama forces have sent "cease and desist" letters to TV and radio stations running anti-Obama ads threatening to challenge their license (the ultimate threat to TV and radio stationsl).  Obama, meanwhile has run ads so disgraceful that at least one has been disavowed by his own running mat, Joe Biden.

 

Obama has never really done anything in the privatesector. He has never run a business.  He has never been in the military. He has done nothing in his life beyond prepare to run for office, and run for office.  He is objectively unqualified to be President of the United States. Obama's actons on the Wall Street Bailout were typical.  As with the immigration debate, he did his best to duck the issue, and stand on the sidelines while others take the heat--while Obama sputs high souding platitudes. There is nothing there.  There is nothing in Obama besides a set of knee jerk, leftist instincts that he tries to conceal now.

 

McCain has a better record.  He has that military service.  He has an unfortunate history of working with Democrats, against conservatives. He has been the most consistent opponent of earmarks in the Congress.  He even prophetically co-sponsored that bill to reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in 2005.  I oppose him because the has been a consistent media "suckup", and enemy of conservatives, over his political career.  Still, he is better than Obama, on almost every level.    Therefore, why would I not vote for McCain, and why might he be actually worse for the country than (bama (who may ruin the country--dangerous as he is, especially with a Democratic Congress).  The Wall Street bailout bill, in a thought experiment, tells you why.

 

House Republicans are under enormous pressure to pass this disgraceful bill, which conflicts with every principle conservatives have ever favored--including even the professed opposition to government pork.  But Democrats keep referring to the bill as a "Republican" bill, proposed by a Republican President and a Republican Secretary of the Treasury (even though that Secretary is a Democrat at heart, and maybe the President now is as well, domestically). 

 

How many Republican votes would this disgraceful Wall Street bailout bill get if it had come from a Democrat President like Obama? The bill would have been lucky to get 10 Republican votes in the House.  Even in the Senate, the bill may have lost a large majority of Republican votes--maybe even enough to kill it.

 

In other words, if Obama were President, you would probably have gotten even a worse Wall Street bailout bill probposed--albeit probably one with a bailout for even more people, costing even more.  But Republicans would likely have opposed it, based on principle.  If the bill were passed, it would be clearly a Democratic bill, and Democrats would be responsible for the results.

 

Contrast that with what will happen if McCain is President.  If McCain proposes something like this Wall Street bailout bill, as hewill, his own party will be under pressure not to oppose him (as Republicans now are, and he is not even President now, although President Bush is). If McCain proposes an immigration bill, the same problems will exist for Republicans.  You can go down the line with possible bill after possible bill.

 

McCain would be better than Obama, if each were able to get exactly what they want as President.  But McCain may well be worse than Obama, in practice, for the country.  Conservative Republicans will have much more trouble standing up to McCain than they will standing up to Obama. At the very least, McCain will be worse for conservatives than Obama, since responsibility for terrible legislation will be clearly with the left, and not confused, as it is with the Wall Street bailout bill.

 

Therefore, even though McCain may be btter than Obama in isolation, in practice Obama may be better for both conservatives and the country.

 

Why not vote for Obama?  Well, mainly because I can't bring myself to deprive the country of any chance that way.  Obama is just too dangerous.  I despair of what will happen with McCain, but there is some small hope.  I see no hope with Obama as President, Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House, and Harry Reid as majority leader of the Senate.  It does not get any worse than that.  Yet, my mind tells me that it could be worse with McCain as President.  Thus, I vote for Bob Barr.
