Nope. You are wrong. I do have enough information on Goodman and Beschloss to make the above statement, beyond the recent examples (Goodman being featured in this blog before in this election, and Beschloss just showing himself to be totally stupid and/or biased, and totally unworthy of credibility--see below).
My information on all of these people, including John McCain, Mike Huckabee, and all of the people of NBC and MSNBC (except the newest), comes from the old "Imus in the morning" radio show (simulcast on MSNBC eventually), to which I used to listen in El Paso more than a decade ago. Beschloss and Goodman were regulars on that show, back when IMus was trying to suck up to NBC and MSNBC, and gain himself credibility beyond a "shock jock". Yes, Imus "sold out". That is why I had no sympathy when he was unfarily treeated because of that stupid joke about the Rutgers women's basketball team. He deserved it for sucking up to these people (MSNBC, e. al.) in the first place.
Anyway, Beschloss and Good were leftist politcal hacks then, and they still are. I don't know whether the books they have written as "historians" are worth reading. I would not read them. Goodman has never said an intelligent thing, that I have heard, and Beschloss has just proven himself to be a totally stupid leftist hack--maybe the most stupid "historian" who ever lived. Yep. I could not make this up. Beschloss evidentnly still appears on the Imus program, and said something that stupid (certainly more stupid than anything Sarah Palin ever said).
Let me dispose of that hack, Doris Kerns Goodman, first. She appeared on "Meet the Press" (she is still a regular NBC and MSNBC lefttist hack disguised as an historian). She peddled the leftist line of the weekend, which was that McCain would have been fine if he had adopted the tone of his concession speech throughout his campaign, instead of catering to those right wing nuts out there (this last being implied). This is standard stuff from Goodman, and the mainstream media, and you can ignore everything she says.
Beschloss, however, was something special, even for today's mainstream media (in a class with a "tingle" running up Chirs Matthews' leg and spine when he though of Barack "World" Obama). Beschloss told Imus that Obama has the highest IQ--is the smartest man--ever to be President of the United States. You might look at that statement awhile. Can any man who makes a staatement like that be either a reputable historian or a reputable commentator? Don't be ridiculous. If you think so, I can't help you. You are too far gone in Obama mainia.
Thomas Jefferson was President of the United States. Abraham Lincoln was President of the United States. John Adams was President of the United States. James Monore was President of the United States. James Madison was President of the United Sates. Herbert Hoover was President of the United States (not a misprint--Hoover was recognized as one of the most brilliant men of his time--showing that mere intelligence does not make a successful President, even if Hoover gets a little bit of a bum rap). Wait it gets better. There is no evidence that Obama is in a class with the men I mention above, or many others, but it still gets better.
Imus asked Beschloss what Obama's IQ is. I kid you not. I might have asked what made Beschloss think Obama is in a class with Thomas Jefferson, but Imus went for a more devastating questioin. He asked Beschloss what Obama's IQ is.
Right. Beschloss had no idea. He had just said that Obama was the probably the smartest man ever to become President of the U.S., and he had no idea what his IQ is. He acted surprised at the question (too used to MSNBC).
I'm sorry. This man (Beschloss) is not fit to be in charge of the El Paso historical society--much less be an "expert" on national TV and radio. It just does not get any more stupid than that.
Nope. Obama has not shown himself to be that smart. He reads a teleprompter well. He ran a decent campaign but not a great campaign. Hillary Clinton would have done better in the general election. If you doubt this, then there is again no hope for you. Hillary would have won by at least 10%. Obama, with the entire mainstream media behind him, and with an unpopular President of the other party presiding over a terrible economy (that he helped make that way by panicking), won by about 5%. Sure, he beat Hilary, but Hillary had a lot of baggage. A lot of people hate her. Very few hated Obama, to start with, although many may be learning to hate him (polically--not literally). Obama came up with no "smart" solution to our economic problems, or really to any of our problems. His policies were the standard leftist policies of the leftist Democratic wing of the party, although Obama was better at high souding rhetoric (from a teleprompter) than most. Obama hardly slaughtered McCain in the debates, despite a lackluster performance by McCain, and the most that can be said is that Obama avoided mistakes.
I seee no evidence that this man is "smart". Oh, I don't think he is dumb. But he does not have a lot of great accomplishments, or writings, behind him His books were popular, if arrogant, autobiographies (which he may or may not have mainly written himself). They were not great works of scholarship, or great literary masterpieces. As far as I know, Obama wrote no outstanding legal papers in law school, or after law school. His legal writings are remarkably sparse. We don't have Obama's transcripts. As far as I know, we don't know his rank on the LSAT (where I, for exaple, got 785 out of 800 under the old scoring). We don't know his class ranking (even though we basically know Kerry's band Bush's). We don't know any measure of Obama's IQ.
Beschloss, you are an idiot. No one should ever pay attention to you agina, on any subject. Anyone who would go this far off of the beam cannot be trusted.
Beffore making Novermber 4 a holiday, in honor of Obama, or making his birthday (no birth certificate disclosed, by the way), we perhaps should wait to see how Obama looks two and four years from now, after actually governing. Just a thought. Maybe we will have a better idea then not only how "smart" he is, but how good a President he will have proven himself to be.

Beschloss has done some good work, particularly on the LBJ tapes, and I could pick up no political slant in *those* books at least.
Doris Kearns Goodwin was LBJ's ghostwriter on his awful autobiography, so I've never followed up by reading another of her books.
