I'm impressed. It's Sarah Palin with a gun. In Kuwait. Visiting our troops.
And hey, she didn't have to wait for it to be an election gimmick, either. She went all on her own. Imagine that, eh, Obama?
Heard in the background:
Yeah, you're pretty much hitting it dead center.
The above comes from rightwingnews.com. I actually went looking for something like it, because I heard a Fox News interview with the operational commander of the Alaskan National Guard--a major general. He was so complimentary of Sarah Palin's performance as Commander-in-Chief of the Alaskan National Guard that you almost got the feeling he was ready to charge up San Juan Hill (Teddy Roosevelt, in the Spanish-American War) behind her.Now I admit that I was not that impressed by the fact that Governor Palin, as is true of all governors, is Commander-in-Chief of the Alaskan National Guard. I thought governors generally were just figureheads, and left the actual administration of the Guard up to others, even though it was still more responsibility than Barack "Wrold" Obama has ever had.The major general actually confirmed my impression that many governors pay little attention. However, he said Governor Palin was different, and was "hands on" as to the Guard: wainting to know whwat they needed. According to him, that included saking where members of the Alaskan National Guard were now serving. Within the first year of becoming Governor, according to the major general, Governor Palin decided to personally visit the Alaskan National Guard troops in Kuwait, after she was informed that was where they were serving overseas (in addition to the emergency responsibilities in Alaska).Governor Paline could not possibly have known she would be the Vice Presidential nominee at that time. According to the major general, she not only went over there to Kuwait, but talked to the Alaskan Guard in Kuwait about their needs. Again according to the major general, Governor Palin came back to Alaska and got legislation passed reflecting what she had learned.. If true, allowing for some exaggeration, this is more impressive than anything Barack "World" Obama has ever done--by far.Yes, Governor Palin has acted SINCE she became the nominee for Vice President, as well. She coordinated with Governor Jindal of Louisiana to send down a plane and two helicopters to help with Gustav. However, there could obviously have been some direct political motivation there--realizing that his is STILL more command experience than Obama has ever had. It is more command experience than Joe Biden has ever had, for that matter. Her visit to Kuwait seems above and beyond what most governors have done, hwoever, and that is what this major general said--emphasizing the importance of governors taking their responsibility serious, as he says Governor Palin did. There is just one ting that puzzles me. She did not really go into this much in her acceptance speech, beyond simply stating her role as Commander-in-Chief. More puzzling is the interview of Campbell Brown (one of the CNN personnel constituting the evil cabal at that network who tried to destroy Palin--see multiple entries over the past week, including the award of the "Finger" on Saturday). I talked some about that interview in one of last week's entries, as Campbell Brown RUDELY DMANDED that the McCain spokesman explain EXACTLY what Governor Palin had done as Commander-in-Chief. Now Campbell Brown was so belligerent, and should have TALKED to this major general herself before acting like she knew that Governor Palin was exaggerating her responsibilities, but it is somewhat puzzling that the McCain spokesman did not bring up the visit to Kuwait. It seems to me a pretty big deal. Maybe the McCain people themselves thought like I did about how governors usually act with the National Guard, and had not looked into it much--perhaps even including the speechwriter who helped with her speech. The woman is just so impressive. As far as I can see, the mainstream media has not laid a glove on her, as she has exposed them as the sanctimonious hypocrites that they are.
