Obama and Osama: The ACLU Approach To Terrorism

Obama has again made one of those incredible gaffes that indicate he is unqualified to be President of the United States.   He decribed how we prosecuted and convicted those "responsible" for the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center as if that was a great success, and how we should have handled 9/11.

If you will recall, while we were prosecuting those who directly conducted the 1993 bombing, bin Laden and al-Qaida  (the real forces ultimately "responsible" for the 1993 bombing) were in the process of organizing the WAR against us that would result in the deadly attacks on the U.S. S. Cole, overseas embassies, and ultimately 9/11.  Bin Laden was not even originally indicted for the 1993 bombing for lack of "evidence".  This caused President Clinton to turn down offers to turn bin Laden over to the United States (by the Sudan and even the Saudis) because we had no criminal basis to hold him.  This  left bin  Laden free to eventually establish the al-Qaida terrorist training camps in Afghanistan, and basically to become the RULERS of Afghanistan.  Result:  9/11.

In other words, our failure to realize that al-Qaida was at WAR with us, as illustrated by our treatment of the 1993 bombing as a mere isolated CRIME, directly led to the unobstructed rise of al-Qaida and 9/11.

When confronted with this incredible gaffe, and McCain's criticism of it, Obama stated that he would not be "lectured" on foreign policy by McCain, who--afterall--supported the invasion of Iraq (which you will note does NOT answer the criticism of what Obama said).

Obama showed that he has not grasp of even recent history.  He said that the people "responsible" for the 1993 World Trade Center bombing were all arrested and tried.  That is FALSE.  In this sense ("responsible referring to the direct perps), all of those responsible for the 9/11 attacks are DEAD.

OSAMA BIN LADEN was one of those responsible for the 1993 boming of the World Trade Center.  It was our treatemnt of al-Qaida as a LAW ENFORCEMENT problem which CAUSED 9/11 in the first place (as we did not go after bin Laden until he was finally indicted, and then not very hard, and NEVER went after al-Qaida as people at WAR with us until after 9/11, and AFGHANISTAN--a war Obama's comment indicates he does NOT favor).

The idea that bin Laden should be treated like an AMERICAN criminal defendant, and tried in some sort of "speedy" trial in Federal Court is just STUPID.

The idea that Osama bin Laden should be tried like an AMERICAN criminal defendant in a "speedy trial" (AMERICAN Constitutional right) in Federal Court (with all Constitutional rights of an American citizen) is simply nuts. It is like saying we should have conducted "trials" of Nazi prisoners WHILE THE WAR WAS STILLL GOING ON.

Even after World War II, of course, Nazi war criminalls were NOT tried in American courts.

This man (Obama) should NOT be President of the United States.  I just wish I thought MCain should be.

P.S.  McCain has been proven to be RIGHT about recent policly in IRAQ and Obama PROVEN to be WRONG.  19 Americans died last month in Iraq.  More than 100 died in that same month a year ago (right before the McCain troop surge idea was finally implemented).  Obama OPPPOSED the troop surge and said it could not work.  He has been PROVEN WRONG, as both American and Iraqi lives have been SAVED by the troop surge.  Indeed, the success has been so dramatic as to indicate that the ONLY thing wrong with the invasion of Iraq was that McCain's advice was not followed.  He suggested more troops from the beginning, and was an early critic of the way Rumsfeld and Bush were handling the situation in Iraq.  IF we had followed McCain's advice in 2003, or even 2004 or 2005, there is a STRONG argument that Iraq would not have been that big a problem--might have been a major SUCCESS.  The troop surge has created the potetial for an ultimate success even now, but there is no doubt that the COST is greater than it should have been.
