Debt Ceiling and Current Spending: Link Them

You may rad my previous article, if you can get through it, and ask this question: How do you extend the debt ceiling so that its expiration coincides exactly with spending bills every fiscal year..? This is actually no problem for honest people. We are just not dealing with honest people (read that previous article).

Sppending bills are supposed to ALL be lpassed before the next fiscal year starts (this October 1). It is actually the LAW hat this happen. Congress has ignored the law requiring a budget by April 15, and spending authorization bills to be passed by now. What I have recommended is to stop this GAME, leading to these "grand comprimises" designed to DECEIVE, and have the debt ceiling "expire" at the end of each fiscal year--not to be raised unless EVERY SPENDING BILL HAS BEEN PASSED, as is required by law.

Now when I say "expire', what I really mean is that we will reach the debt ceiling at the end of the fiscal year, and will not be able to raise it unless ALL spenidng bills have been passed for the nest year. Now, yo COULD "sunset" the debt limit, such that it reverst to ZERO at the end o fevery fiscal year, unless extended. While I have a fondness for that idea., which would make the "drop dead" date a rEAL DEFAULT DATE (rather than such allegation being a preent Democrat/mainstream meida LIE), I tend to think that is somewhat too much pressure.re.

But look at what I am suggeting. If you have PASSED every spending bill for next year, then you should hage a really solid idea of what debt ceiling you need to have to get through the year covered by those psending bills. And if there is any EXTRA SPENDING, Congress should have to raise that debt ceiling to get through the year in connectino with such spending.

By this method, the debt ceiling is directly linked to SPENDING. The debt ceiling is raised ony AFTER spending is authorized, and only by enough to cover the year for which that spending has been authorized. Therefore, people KNOW exactly why the debt ceiling has been raised by the amount that it is raised. The debt ceiling is DIRECTLy keyed to spending votes for Congress. And if Congress has already AUTHORIXED THE SPENDING, Congress has no way to aovid raising the debt ceiling by the necessary amount to cover that spending.

YHou heare peole in Congress talk about TRANSPARENCY. They don't mean it. I mean it. The people SHOULD KNOW exactly why the debt ceiling is being raside by the amount it is being rasied, AFTER the spending votes that make it necessary. If Congress is unwilling to do this, theen we should throw every member of Congress out and start over (yes, the President as well, since he could get this done if he wanted).

No grand, deceptive deal. Sure, you could still have compromises on "saving Medicare", and all of the rest. But those compromises would not obsure the debt issue and the spending issue. Congress would have tro vote on the SPENINDG before raising the debt ceiling just enough to accommodate the spending Congress authorizes. No games. No deceooption. All clear.

Do you understand why Republicans in Congrss will not FORCE my "solution" to this "debt ceiling' problem--a solution that brings perfect transparency and discipline to the problem? Of course yo understand. Congress does not WANT transparency. Congress does not WANT you to realize exactly what they are doing. Congerss does WANT to play games--to deceive youo. And that includes both Democrats and Republicans..

Nope. I no longer give ANY slack to these dishonest people (our politicians--not to mention our media). Mypatience is gone. That is why the Republican Party is playin gwith fire on a "debt ceiling compromise". There is at least an 80% chance that the Republican Party will be my ENEMY for that point forward (Third Party or no Thrid Party).

P.S. No proofreading or spell checking (bad eyesight).
