Hunger in America: The Politics and Decption of Hunger

What do you think of the claim that 25% of the children in American are hungry? If you have any brains, you think that anyone makig that claim is DISHONEST, with a hidden agenda. Yes, I have heard that ridiculous claim for 3 or more years now, and I head it again today (Saturday--on the disgraceful Fox News, which I have advocated you boycottt, with Fox putting out one of thhose "puff" propaganda pieces so beloved of the left).

I was vaguelyl for JFK in the election of 1060. After all, how could a 12 year old boy (or a 60 year old man or woman) really be "for" Richard Nixon (even those voting for him did not do so because Nixon have you a warm, fuzzy feeling). However, by the time Barry Godwater ran against Lyndon Johnson, I was a conservative to the core (as I have been since). One of the highlights of my early life ws being invited into a room at New Mexico State University--along with some other students hanging around outside--where Barry Goldwater was speaking (this was after his landslide defeat--a defeat partially brought about by the Republican establishment I still despise, although no one was going to defeat Johnson after the assassination of JFK). Yes, Democrats, including the mainstream media (leftist media not being a new thing, although it is much wore now) successfully portraying Goldwater as an "extremist" who would get us into war. You will remember that Johnson promptly escalated the Vietnam War to the point that we would end up losing 50,000 men, as he also did it in the very worst way it could have been done (what I call Robert McNamera's War). The relevant point of this article, however, is Johnson's WAR ON POVERTY. This was 1965, and Democrats controlled Congress after the Johnson landslide (much bigger landslide than Obama got), with the Democrats having an impressive "mandate". In other words, Johnso passed pretty much what he wanted, although sane enough NOT to pass ObamaCare (Medicare being as far as the country--a sane country--would go in that era). This was 45 years and more ago. Question to the poor and the hungry: How did that War on Poverty, and the numberous Big Government, Democrat programs since, work out for you?

Now the very same type of people--sometimes the very same people--who advocated the Big Government War on Poverty are telling you that we need a War on Hunger in Americaa. Oh, they admit that there are more than enough government programs out there so children don't have to go "hungry", but they are saying that not enough people are USING the programs that are available. Yes--I could never make this up--the Fox report made clear that ALL of these programs (summer programs, especailly, to supplement school lunches that children don't eat because Micheele Obama is pushihg vegetalbes) are 100% reimbursable by the Federal Government. Therefore, the report said, the money is available (as if the Federal Government erally had the money). In other words, for YEARS these "advocates of hunger" have been pushing the "magic wand theory of government": that all we have to do is wave a magic wand and hunger in America is solved. They have really been advocating this since Lyndon Johnson, and before. Welll, for the most part, we have waved the magic wand these people wanted--multiple times--and they are saying (stupid as that is) that 25% of the children in America are STILL HUNGRY. Can there be any greater admission of Big Government failure?

This is like the practive of having "professional mourners". These people (the dishonest people pushing these false statistics and false remedies) are PROFESSIONAL HUNGER ADVOCATES, and PROFESSIONAL POVERTY ADVOCATES. They actually have a vested interest in not eliminating poverty or hunger. And it is DISGRACEFUL to sue false statistics on CHILDREN to play on the emotions of people.

40% of the people in El Paso Country (where I live) are on food stamps. Who knows how many are legally in this country. Something approaching 20% of the households int he country are on food stamps. And these "hunger advocates" are saying that 25% of the children in this country are STILL hungry? President Obama must be doing even worse than I thought. Are these people TRYING to get Newt Gingrich elected President of the United States? It is Gingrich, you will remember, who has said Obama is turning this country into a "food stamp nation".

"But Skip, you don't want chiildren to go hungry, do you?" No. But I KNOW that these people pushing this particular agaenda are not going to keep children from going hungry. They are TELLING me (and you ) so. They have FAILED for 45 years, and want us, and the "hungry",, to keep entrusting the task to them. Yes, I AM saying that there are a whole lot of people MAKING MONEY out of the "industry" of poverty and hunger. Further, I pay no attention to people who are DISHONEST. Anyone dishonest enough to say that 25% of the children in this country go hungry should not be involved in sewage treatment for Mt. Ida,Arkansas (the samll Arkansas town where I spend most of the first 12 years of my life).

This is the bottom line assertion of these "hunger advocates": "Something must be done."

Here is the correct principle, to be learned from the last 45 years and more: Something must be done DIFFERENTLY.

By the way, I do get a little confused. Is the biggest problem for children in this country OBESITY (Michelle Obama) or HUNGER. Might we not be SAVING children by preventing them from eating until they are full all of the time? SAVE A CHILD: STARVE THE CHILD. (Just kidding, but I really don't know where this Big Government foolishness ends.)

P.S. No proofreading or spell checking (bad eyesight, although at least I am not hungry).
