My brother likes to say that we already have high speed rail: We call it "airplanes".
Once you get outside the "usual suspects" , no one really wants high speed rail. Even fewer (yes, less than "no one") believe we NEED high speed rail. Even fewer (way less than "nonone") believe that we can AFFORD high speed rail, or that it is worth its (massive, surely overbudget) cost.
Yet, President Obama continues to push for the Federal Government to finance the construction of high speed rail (from where to where? look at the politics of this massive PORK porject). You need no further evidence that Obama has leanred NOTHING from shi failed "Big Government "stimulus", which was--Obama told us so--supposed to be used fro "infrastructure". Typical of Obama, you get the LEAST "bang for the buck" with high speed rail. It takes enourmous capital, and almost no one really wants it. What it does do is pay off unions and provide what Obama believes will be a "stimulus". Yes, Obama believes it will be a "stimulus" because Obama knows it COSTS SO MUCH. You simply can't, unless you are Obama, use "high speed rail" and "deficit reduction" in the same paragraph. But Obama did, because he has no shame in doing that sort of thing.
Yes, Obama and leftist Democrats think--for some crazy reason--that saying "high speed rail" and 'infrastructure" will enable them to "create jobs" their way--GOVERNMENT PROJECTS--for as long as the mind can contemplate. No, they do't CARE whehter we can afford it. The "afflord", deficit reduction part is Obama in his role as Liar-in-Chief. Unfortunately for Obama, we can't afford it, and everyone knows that. Even if we could afford it, "high speed rail" is a very doubttful use of government resources to help unions and make money for people favored by our Federal Goverfnment. We are NOT talking "interstate highway system" here. We are talking white elephant PORK.
When will Obama get the message that massive government spending is not going to get this economy moving again? "Never" is the correct answer.
Extra credit project for any real "journalist" out there (if any exists): Follow the money. Who would PROFIT from "high speed rail"?
