Economy or Religion: The Real Issue?

Now I have questioned these "polls", and the mainstream media, suggesting that th econmy is the "main" issue in this election.  I question that because a rational person realizes that a President can't do that much about the economy, especially in the short run.  In fact, TRYING to do too much about the short run economy can DESTROY the long term economy

Now the WORST thing for a slowing economy is HIGHTER TAXES, and massive ADDTIONAL GOVERNMENT SPENDING.  Barack "World" Obama has promised both   Nope.  "Middle class tax cuts" don't mean anything, if taxes are RAISED overall  Economic theory tells you, conclusively, that highter taxes are FATAL in a slow economy.   Now you may get a BRIEF stimulous by sending people CHECKS, but that is disastrous in the long run if highter taxes are stifling job creation.

Whether you buy into the above or not, the fate of the present economy will probably be sealed by the time the new President takes office.  We will either be recovering from the present slowdown by then, or we will be in big trouble.  It will likely be a year or more before the new President makes any difference at all, whichis why the short term economy should NOT be that big an issue in ANY election. If the election had been held a year ago, the eoncomy was doing WELL (despite the media and Democrats).  WHY should the lection results be merely a matter of WHEN the election is held?  Shoud elections turn on whether they happen to be held in the middle of a cyclical downturn, or at the time of a cyclical upturn?  Rationally, no.  It is the LONG TERM helath of the econmy we should be arguing about.  Otherwise, we are arguing about last year's war.

That said, the sanctimonious hypocrites in the media don't seem to believe what they are saying.  If the ECONOMY, and things like our safety and standing in the world, are the main ISSUES.  WHY are they talking as if the main issues were THIS WEEK'S SMEAR of Sarah Palin.  Last week, CNN and the mainstream media were all agon on motherhood and the pregnancyof a 17 year old girl.  This week the "issue" (smear) is Sarah Palin's RELIGION.   How can Obama make "the economy" the "issue", when the mainstream media keeps doing this evil smear stuff?  He can't.

The media des ont care, because they realize that Presidentila elections are more aobut the PERSON than they are aout "the eonconomy", or anything else.  If people TRUST John McCain and Sarah Palin to be doing the right thing for them, or at least trying, then specific issues don't matter that much.  What else was Obama dong with his unspecific "chnage" message, but saying:  TRUST ME".

That is why the sanctimonious hypocrites in the media are ingoring what they themselves are saying, and trying to tear down Sarah Palin PERSONALLY.  The mainstream media is NOT against the "politics of personal destruction."  They believe in it above all else.  They just want to be the only AGENTS of the "politics of personal destruction".  THEY want to have the POWER to destroy.  They just don't want anyone else to have it.
