Obama is looking more and more to me like a man who has risen to his level of incompetence, at least at this time in his life. He has gotten by up until now with one major talent: the ability to sound REALLY good reading a teleprompter. Now, as he needs to do more than that, he is unable to rise to the challenge.
A case in point is Obama's attempted "message" on change. He actually attempted to label McCain's new message of "change" (stealing Obma's word: how DARE he!!!) is noting but empty words (can't make this stuff up).
Obama was TRYING to suggest that McCain is no more than a continuation of Bush. For those of us who have OPPOSED McCain for a decade or more, this is funny enough. But to use the term "empty words" is ludicrous.
What has Obama done but TALK about "change? ....................................... Sorry. Was trying to think of something. Couldn't.
Let us go to the Vice Presidential choice. WHO was the agent of CHANGE? Hint: It was not Barack "World" Obama. Obama went with the "safe" Washington insider, rather than the "home run", but possibly risky and uncomfortable, choice of Hillary Clinton. It was John McCain who went "outside the box" and chose Sarah Palin. That is REAL change. Obama was politics as usual. Who is it that uses the "empty words"?
It was McCain who tried to CHANGE our immigration policy (for the worse) last year--almost dooming his candidacy in the process. Obama merely sniped at the change as TOO HARSH on illegal immigrants. It is McCan who has FOUGHT earmarks. Obama has no record of doing ANYTHING to hold down spending. It is McCain who helped bring about REAL change in Iraq--again almost dooming his Presidency. While Obama was voting AGAINST funding for the troops, and demanding a timetable that would have LOST the war in Iraq, McCain was advocating the troop surge that has WORKED. Obama is now citing the Iraqi government as being on OBAMA'S side as to a "timetable" NOW, when the Iraqi government would not exist if Obama had gotten his "timetable" THEN (when we were losing in Iraq). It was McCain who got the McCain/Feingold ethics law passed. Again, I did not say that McCain's changewas GOOD. Obama's, however, is non-existent. Even that "ethics legislation (minor stuff) that Obama says he got through the Senate? McCain sent Obama a LETTER at the time, that became public, saying that Obama had endangered the bipartisan legislation by breaking promises. This was back before Obama was the likely Presidential nominee.
It is McCain who has fought his party, not Obama. I should know, because I consider McCain a foe of conservatives. I have said so for YEARS in this blog, and continue to say so. Leftists were willing to ENCOURAGE conservatives to be against McCain when they thought they could divide Republicans that way. Now that Palin has united REpublicans, leftists, dishonest people that they are, want to say McCain is just another Bush conservative (conservatives like me don't even consider Bush a conservative).
Thre is no doubt. It is OBAMA with the empty words. It is McCain with the ACTION (for good or ill), and actual ATTEMPTS to CHANGE his own party. It is mcCain who had the GUTS to choose Palin. To say Palin does not represent "change" is transparently false. To say Biden does represent "change" is transparently false.
IN short, McCain DOES deserve the "maverick" label, AND the label of someone willing to attempt CHNAGE--whether that change is always for the good or not.
