Sarah Palin: AOL Lies

One of the great things about Sarah Palin is that she has smoked out the entire mainstream media as the leftist hypocrites (not to mention sexists) that they are.  this included AOL "News", even beyond the reliance of AOL on the WORST of the stories of the "Anti-American, Despicable Associated Press" (which means AOL generally relies on the wrost "news" stories ever written for its "news").

A case in point is the always biased AOL "poll".  Now if you participate in an AOL poll, you are dumb to start with.  Every AOL poll is an exercise in mental masturbation, with no pretense to any significance.  That is because the "sample", no matter how large, is NOT a "samlple" at all.  It is a SELF-SELCTED vote of those who CHOOSE to vote.  That is why Ron Paul always did so well in such "polls.  He, and his supporters, actually targeted them, as almost EVERY Ron Paul supporter would "vote", while maybe 1% of the suppporters of other candidates would "vote" in the meaningless things.  Yes, the very existence of AOL "unscientific" polls is a lie, as is true of a Bill O'Reilly poll of his viewers or a CNN poll of their (few) viewers.

However, it is in the WORDING of the polls that you often see the most egregious lies.  This was true last night of AOL on Sarah Palin.  Sarah Palin did an ABC interview broadcast last night where she did perfectly well.  That did not stop the mainstream media from trying to "pick" at the interview as they have NEVER "picked" at the outrageous statements of Barack "World" Obama.  For example it took THREE DAYS for Obama to arrive at McCain's position on Georgia.  In the meantime, Obama made a GAFFE of major proportions by saying that the U.N. Security Council should help resolve the crisis with Russia, when Russia has a VETO in the Security Council.  If Palin made a slip like that, she would be crucified, even though Obama's "experience" in foreign affairs is no greater than hers and no less subject to questions about what he really knows.  With the AOL poll last night, however, we are not talking about subtle BIAS, but an outright LIE contained in the premise of the poll question (which is one of the many ways polls can lie).

The AOL lying question was basically:  "Do you agree with Palin that we should be prepared to go to war with Russia over Georgia."  Paslin said no such thing,  The poll question has an outright LIE as its premise.  What Plain said was in response to a hypothetical question:  "IF Georgia (the country) becomes part of NATO, does that mean we have to go to war with Russia if it attacks Georgia".  What Palin CORRECTLY said is that members of NATO are obligated to defend one another, to the point of war.  However, Georgia is NOT now a part of NATO, and even though Palin advocated both the Ukraine and Georgia becoming part of NATO, the time and conditions under which that would happen are obviously to be determined.  Further, she went on to say that "war" was not the only answer, and that other measures (economic sanctions, diplomatic boycotts, etc.) might well be used.  The idea of organizations like NATO is to DETER war by making it clear that attacks on one member are attacks on all, so that war becomes LESS likely.  If Russia gets the idea that it can rebuild the Soviet Union--the Evil Empire--by attacking countries that were previously part of the Soviet Union, then ultimate war becomes MORE likely.

In any event, Palin did NOT say that we should be prepared to "go to war with Russia".  What she SAID was that we should be prepared to uphold our obligations to NATO, or which Georgia is not now a member.  Those obligations include the obligation to go to war, if that is what NATO requires (as in Kosovo--Clinton's war from the air).  The idea that NATO would go to war with Russia over Georgia is remote at this time.  AOL knows it.  Palin's position is hardly different from Obala's, and is basically nothing more than a statement of support for a democratic Georgia against a bullying Russia. To say that she was saying that we need to be "prepared" to go to war with Russia, like we are getting prepared for the imminent landfal of Hurricane Ike, is a LIE.  I am willing to state flatly: People in AOL either KNOW it is a LIE or are totally stupid.
Again, my vote is for BOTH.
