Did you ever have any doubt about whether Sarah Palin was McCain's BEST choice for Vice President, among the conceivable alternatives? If so, the speeches at the Republican Convention should have changed your mind. This is so even though the RISH of the bold choice remains, as I told you from the beginning.
Mitt Romney was my choice for President (BEFORE Iowa, as I figured it out BEFORE Limbaugh--who betrayed conservatives by playing Hamlet until it was too late to stop McCain). His speech at the Convention confirmed my opinion of why he did NOT win the nomination, when the path was wide open for him. He was stiff, and did not connect well with the audience, even though what he said was perfectly fine. My older daughter, Kenda, in Boston, dislikes him intensely as an ELITIST out of ouch with people. I would have had no problem with Romney as McCain's VP, although I have long said it was not going to happen. However, I have no doubt that Palin was the BETTER choice, on all levels. Further, McCain's choice of Palin,m and Romney's speech, make it pretty clear why the party chose McCain, even though McCain has made a career out of bashing conservatives.
Joe Lieberman is a good guy, if a liberal Democrat on most issues. But his speech alone showed he cannot hold a candle to Palin. He is uninspiring. Yes, he is solid, and more in tune with McCain's philosophy that "getting things done" is more important than a real philosophy of governing. Lieberman not only opposes conservatives, and therefore most Republicans, on MOST domestic issues, but he showed little personality in his run for the Vice Presidency. Nope. There is just no doubt that Sarah Palin is a BETTER choice than Joe Lieberman--at least if McCain wanted to WIN this election (despite the risk of an "out of the box" pick). I remain convinced that Sarah Palin will make a better PREESIDENT than either LIeberman or Romney, if it comes to that, because she has such ability to relate to people and learn QUICKLY. I say that even though I would have VOTED for Romney over Palin, had they both been running for President in this election. I say that, but that is my head talking. If she had actually been running, she is so impressive that I think she might have won me over.
Mike Huckabee's speech showed he is not evenclose. He gets by mainly on personality, and SHE has the far superior personality. Huckabee's speech was not nearly as impressive as hers. Huckabee was not nearly as impressive as she was.
From all accounts, all though he did not speak in prime time so far (I don't know whether he is scheduled tonight or not--he IS the Governor of Minnesota), Governor Pawlenty does NOT have an electrifying personaity. A lackluster white male, and ordinary--if worthy--governor was just not going to cut it.
Bobby Jindal of Louisiana is the only one who comes close to matching Palin as an exiting new face of the Republican Party. However, he is VERY YOUNG, and without here compelling personal story. I believe he would have represented the next best choice, despite his youth.
Fred Thompson just never showed an ability to actually RUN for President, and would have been a hopeless choice for Vice President. His performance in the campaign, where he had a solid chance to win with a good performance, showed that. His speech was a good one, but not in her class (speech and presence). Thompson SEEMS old most of the time, and would hardly have complemented McCain.
Rudy Giuliani made the only speech to rival Palin's, as everyone knows he can do But his run for President shows that he does not wear well. A New York City liberal on the Republican ticket was just not going to work, and Giuliani came with all of that BAGGAGE.
Nope. Despite the doubts, McCain made the BEST choice--not just a gender choice. It was a risky choice in the sense that Plain could still BLOW it because she has not been on this kind of stage before. However, McCain was right that he could not afford a lackluster choice, although Obama perhaps could (and got one in Biden).
P.S. Double nope. Tom Ridge, another unexiting, liberal leaning white guy, was never a reasonable choice, despite his credentials in Pennsylvania.

Hip Hip hurra for Sara! After all those acid remarks from the Obama camp and the disparaging remarks from the media about her lack of experiance to be the the Commander and Chief"s number two, Sara showed them all that she has the right stuff! Sara's exceptance speech showed everyone that she has true grit. Obama's responce was the same old warn out, and repackaged lines that just doesn't hold any water any more. Sarah barrowed Biden's line,"The White House is no place for (Obama's) on the job training." Sarah has led both as Mayor and Govennor. Obama none of the above. Yes, Sarah showed everyone she's no push over. Sarah is deffinately comfortable in her own skin, and has made Obama and company very uncomfortable, when she got under their collective skins. Job well done Sarah! You got your message out there for all to see and hear. "Yes she can!" Obama and company, watch out, The McCain Palin ticket is leading the way. So being you, Obama, have not led anything, GET OUT OF THE WAY!!!
I appreciate the comment and, of course, agree with it.
