Fox News: LIARS and Scare Artists: Oil Speculators Are Smareter

I have told you before:  Fox News is PART of the mainstream media problem, and NOT part of the "solution".

I did not watch all of the Fox News Hurricane Gustav coverage.  No one could.  But it was disgraceful HYPE and LIES.  Don't doubt me on this.

You have a minimal category 3 hurricane proceeding across the Gulf of Mexico.  Fox News kept saying DOOM, DOOM, DOOM--WOE IS US; WOE IS US; WOE IS US.

Even if New Orleans survives, the message was constantly that oil platforms were already shut down, and oil production was already disrupted, and therefore we were DOOMED to astronomical fuel prices no matter what.

Then Sheppard Smith was "astonished" that oil prices (world markets) DROPPED 4 dollars a barrel today.  Yep.  He should have APOLOGIZED (as Wolf Blitzer should have apologized for CNN) for Fox's FALSE, hyper-scare coverage.  Today's events proved that Fox News is a LIAR, and not worth watching.

It also proves, as I have said before, that oil speculators are SMARTER than the dumb "journalists" at Fox News.  It was NEVER true that an ordinary hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico would cause gasoline prices to spike.  A few days, or a week or so, of oil and gas disruption in the Gulf of Mexico is UNIMPORTANT.  That is WHY oil prices dropped.  The "market" had been worried about LONG TERM, severe disruption.  It got little of that from Gustav (apparently, anyway).  Thus, oil prices dropped, as a minimally intelligent person would have known (IF that person were not a Fox News "journalist" trying to HYPE the storm).

Nope.  Fox News was visibly ROOTING for this storm as it came across the Gulf of Mexico--FALSELY asserting that it was  a "major" Category 3 storm, and would NEVER go lower, although it might intensify.  In actual fact, it was a MINIMAL Category 3 storm on the edge of a Category 2 storm (which is what it was when it actually hit the coast), and nothing more than  \a pretty normal hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico,  Category 3 storms START at 115 mph, and that is what Gustav was at most of the way across the Gulf.  Contrary to the LIARS at Fox News, it was irrelevant that Gustav was momentarily a Category 4 storm, before weakening well away from land, and it meant absolutely NOTHIGN as to either gasoline prices or storm surge.

Is a minimal Category 3 hurricane a major storm?  Sure. It is a dangerous storm.  It is just not a MAJOR HURRICANE, in the class off Hurricane Rita or Hurricane Katriana (Category 4 storms until right before landfall).  It is a LIE to not simply tell the facts, but to HYPE the scare.

Fox News may be WORSE than the other networks on this kind of HYUPE, although better on political bias.  I repeat:  Fox News is generally NOT worth watching.
