Death Penalty: Subverting Democracy

Yes, the despicable Associated Press, in a LONG story featured on AOL which even reprises some of the TRIAL arguments, has made a really big deal out of Georgia resumeing executions, and being the first state to execute anyone in seven months.  It is a "big deal" only because death penalty opponents have access to the media to make it a big deal, as executions never should have been stopped in the first place.

As I have said repeatedly (see the blog archives) true leftists do NOT beieve in democracy.  They believe that the end justifies the means, and in getting their way by any means possible (including dictatorial fiat).  The death penalty, where leftists have tried to get their way for some sixty years in a WAR OF ATTRITION against the popular will, is a conspicious example.

What is the problem here?  The problem is these "moratoriums".  They do NOT generally result from a vote of the people, or the people's representatives.  They result from death penalty opponents using the courts to DELAY and DELAY and DELAY.

This particular "moratorium" was an especially egregious perversion of the democratic will, and of justice.  There was never any doubt at all about the "constitutionality" of lethal injection.  There was never any excuse for the moratorium in the first place.  In fact, the Supreme Court vote was 7 to 2 for the obvious conclusion that lethal injection is NOT unconsitutional, on the theory that it MIGHT cause some pain.

The ONLY reason for the moratorium was that enough justices on the Supreme Court go along with the death penalty opponents that the end justifies the means, and are willing to subvert democracy to impose their own views of correct policy.  The moratorium was absurd in the first place, and to make such a big deal of the resumption of executions, which never should have stopped, just indicates the media agenda here.
