Happy Fourth of July: CELEBRATE This Weeend

You might ordinarily thnk this is a meaningless platitude.  However, I think we, as a country, have a lot to celebrate on the Fourth of July--the day symbolizing the beginning of the country which has represented the greatest force for freedom that the world has ever known.

As I stated in entiies earlier this week, too many leftists do NOT share this view.  If you doubt this, consider again the columnist who wrote a column this week, in the leftist Philadelphia Inquirer, suggesting that we do not DESERVE--this year--to celebrate the Fourth of July because of all of the evil we are doing, and allowing to be done, by this country in the world (and in this country itself).  The assertion is basically that we should all wear hair shirts because we now stand for torture and stifling freedom, rather than the opposite.

First, you have to ask the question:  WHO are we fighting/opposing in Afghanistan, Iraq and arouond the world.  Answer:  Al-Qaida, the Taliban, Islamic terrorists, Iran, North Korea, Hezbollah, Syria, Columbian drug lords, and the like.  Compare what those people are doing with 3 or so instances of waterboarding, and further, isolated allegations of abuse of prisoners--often disapproved and punished (as at Abu Ghraib)   Then you have the LIMITED number of alleged FOREIGN TERRORISTS detained--as distinguished from THOUSANDS of JAPANESE AMERICANS detained by FDR.

See the previous entry this week where I discussed the LEFTIST attempt to blame the Cold War on the U.S. by blaming the evils of the Soviet Union (20 million killed, oppression of Eastern Europe, Berlin Wall, etc) on things like allegedly bellicose SPECHES by U.S. politicians and comparatively minor "Red scare hysteria in the U.S.  This is what leftists DO.  They inflated, alleged peccadillos of the U.S. with the actions of some of the worst enemies of freedom, and humanity itself, ever to have walked the Earth.  Saddam Hussein, for example, was a MONSTER--whatever you think of whether the War in Iraq was the way to get rid of him.  The North Vietnamese were NOT "good guys" ("freedom fighters") worthy of Jane Fonda applauding their actions against U.S. troops, even if you admit that the Vietnam War was a mistake.

WE are the primary force FIGHIING the forces of evil in the world today, even if we make some mistakes.  The people we are fighting are NOT the "good guys". They are, in fact, the BAD GUYS.

We have much to celebrate.  There is noBerlin Wall anymore.  Eastern Europe is free (something I never thought I would see in my lifetime, and something I correctly credit to Ronald Reagan.  We are NOT under a constant threat of nuclear holocaust, and even the Soviet Union is a more free country than it was, as we WON the Cold War.  We are now dealing with Russia, rather than the old Evil Empire of the Soviet Union.

We have had NO terrorist attack succeed in the U.S. since 9/11, and few in the WORLD, outside of the Mideast.

From Nazi Germany to Imperial Japan to the Evil Empire of the Soviet Union to al-Qaida and the Taliban, it has been the United States that has led the firght for FREEDOM in the world.

You SHOULD celebrate, and I hope you have and do.

Again, have a happy and safe Fourth of July weekend--even you deluded leftists out there.  I especially wish that for our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.

P.S. 1:  We still have about the best economy in the world, and the best standard of living.  For the most part, the rest of the world wants to come HERE.

P.S.  2:  I was having computer glitches when this entry was first written, making proofreading impossible--resulting in an even more sloppy entry than usual (and my proofreading is not good normally.  In fact, tose glitches are continuing.  However, the WORST thing about the original version of this entry was the INSULT to the National Enquirer.  That was a slip of the mind--substituting the National Enquirer for the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER.   Not only was the column in question in the PHILADELPHIA leftist newspaper, but the NATIONAL ENQUIRER is a better publication.
