Are conservatives now in exile--essentially like the Jews from the Promised Land? I think so. The indications are everywhere.
Sean Hannity no longer identifies himself as a Republican. This blog has essentially DISOWNED the Republican Party.
It is not only that John McCain is the Republican nominee (although that is bad enough). As I said in an entry last week, htere has not been a conservative nominee for President since Reagan. George Bush 41 BETRAYED the Reagan revoluton (messing up the simple, effective Reagan tax revolution of only three rates: 0%, 15%, and 28%--remember "read my lips"?). Dole was another establishment conservative. Rush Limbauh and I agree that George Bush 43 is NOT a "conservative", and I said so FIRST. I never considered that he was such when he ran for the Presidency in 2000.
In fact, there have only been two conservative NOMINEES for President since 1960. One was Ronald Reagan. The other was Barry Goldwatter. Nope. Richard Nixon was NEVER even close to being a true conservative (lest you forget, Reagan entered the 1968 race AGAINST Nixon). Sure, Nixon was blessed in his leftist enemies, dating back to the Alger Hiss days, but Nixon was never a conservative (especially on domestic policy, and he did not really even govern as a conservative on international policy, lest you forget Henry Kissinger).
Are conservatives doomed, like the Jews, to remain in the wilderness for a really long time? Maybe. There appears to be no real conservative leader on the horizon. That is why a McCain defeat will not upset me (despite the implications for the Supreme Court, although that is the ONLY thing that bothers me about such a defeat). MAYBE such a defeat will create an opportunity for a real conservative leader to emerge--the way Reagan finally emerged. Note that we do not need a carbon copy of Reagan, or someone like McCain invoking Reagan's name. Conservatives need another LEADER like Reagan--preferably one with Regan's type of charismatic personality.
You doubt me? You should have learned better by now. Consider this quote from a story today, about the Indiana Republican governor telling conservatives to "get over Reagan", and to unite behind McCain. Isn't it heartwarming how Republicans are willing to DIS conservatives, and to make it perfectly clear that they will not "unite" behind a conservative, but expect conservatives to accept whatever crumbs they get? Forget it. I don't think that way. I definitely agree with Hannity: I AM NOT A REPUBLICAN. Here, for the record, is the quote of the Indiana governor:
Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels elicited several hushed gasps and raised eyebrows late last week as he lectured a

conservative crowd that it was “time to let Ronald Reagan go.”
You can see the whole story linked on Drudge. But take my word for it. The above is NOT "out of context". The whole idea here is for conservatives to swallow their principles, and "get with the program". Fat chance.
