Afghanistan: The Left Readies To LOSE Another War

"The U.S. military suffered its 101st death of the year in Afghanistan last week when Sgt. 1st Class David J. Todd Jr., a 36-year-old from Marrero, La., died of gunfire wounds while helping train Afghan police in the northwest. The total number of U.S. dead last year — 111 — was a record "

Reality check!!!!  Reality Check!!!!!

The above is HOT "news".  It is the "Anti-American, Despicable Associated Press" (always use complete, official name in first reference)  spewing its anti-American, pro-terrorist propaganda, as usual.

First, we WON the WAR in Afghanistan, as we WON the initial WAR in Iraq against Saddam Hussein.  We are now fighting INSURGENCIES.  It is notoriously difficult to "win" against insurgencies, and IMPOSSIBLE so long as the insurgents have sanctuaries.

In the twisted, anti-American "mind" of the AP, 101 American deaths is "losing".  For comparison, 800 drug cartel MURDERS have occurred across the Rio Grande from me since the beginning of the year.  Talk about LOSING a war;  Mexico is a FAILED country.

Yes, every death is important, and it is disturbing that we are beginning to have more U.S. deaths in Afghanistan than in Iraq.  But that is MAINLY because we are WINNING in Iraq, where we truly were LOSING (100 deaths a month, and increasing), before the McCain/Petraeus "troop surge" strategy was put into effect.

WHO is saying we are LOSING in Afghanistan?  It is actually the despicable ASSOCIATED PRESS.  What they did was pick up a "report" from a single individual, who wrote an ARTICLE for one of those "think tank" "international studies" groups.  You can ALWAYS find an article like that somewhere.  If you pick out ONE such article from an undistinguished source (I promise you:  you have never heard of this guy), then it is really YOUR opinion you are pushing (as it is the agenda of the despicable AP being pushed here).

Note that the despicable AP has never APOLOGIZED for all of those stories about how we had already LOST in Iraq, which proved to be FALSE.  Indeed, the despicable AP has never called to account people like Harry Reid, who declared the War in Iraq LOST (explain to me again how that was not giving aid and comfort to the enemy, and undermining our troops).

Objectively, we are not "losing" in Afghanistan (any more than the Battle of the Bulge meant we were LOSING in World War II).  We are simply suffering setbacks in an overall successful campaign to keep the Taliban out of power in Afghanistan.
I am perfectly aware that ONE of the agenda items of the above story is to support Barack "World" Obama in his assertion that Afghanistan is the IMPORTANT war, from which we have been distracted in Iraq--ignoring that the troop surge promises to get combat troops substantially OUT of Iraq BEFORE the 16 months that Obama is promising to withdraw them, with VICTORY.

Problem for Obama:  the left does NOT really like the War in Afghanistan, or the whole War on Terror.  Afghanistan is just a TACTICAL wedge with which to attack the Bush Administration and the War in Iraq.  However, Afghanistan is a TOUGHER nut to crack than Iraq.  Yes, IRAN was a problem in Iraq, as was Syria.  But militarily they do not pose nearly the problems that PAKISTAN poses in Afghanistan.  We can put a MILLION troops in Afghanistan, and the Soviet Union almost did, and just provide more TARGETS, unless we have figured out a way to handle those mountain tribal regions on the Pakistan broder.

Now, at one point, Obama (in his typical arrogant way) suggested an INVSION of Pakistan.   Do you really believe that the left, or the Democratic Party, supports an INVASION of Pakistan?  And what about putting , say, 200,000 troops in Afghanistan?  Instead of spending billions in Iraq, we will merely transfer the spending to Afghanistan, where it may not be possible to spend the money, not to mention extra troops, well.  It MAY be best to simply continue a strategy of long term PRESSURE on the Taliban, while isolating them in those forbidding mountains.  Sure, we need to give the military the troops they need for a coherent strategy, but mere numbers of troops are never going to be enough to totally wipe out the Talian.  Obama has given NO indication he knows any more about what to do with Pakistan than the rest of us.  I would bet MOST of us trust MCain to do better than Obama in appreciating the options available to us in a realistic assessment (if only I trusted McCain outside of foreign policy).

Do you doubt me about the agenda of the despicable AP with this manufactured, hysterical "story"?  You FOOL you!  Here is a paragraph from later in the story:

"Multi-direction attacks, flawlessly executed ambushes and increasingly powerful roadside and suicide bombs mean the U.S. and 40-nation NATO-led force will in all likelihood suffer its deadliest year in Afghanistan since the 2001 invasion."

Marvel again at how despicable the anti-American AP is!  "Flawlessly executed"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you were a public relations expert representing the Taliban (an official one, instead of the unofficial ones at the AP), could you release a better press release than the above?  Of course not.  It is pro-Taliban propaganda, pure and simple.

Number 1:  It LIES.  The Taliban attacks are almost never "flawlessly executed".  They are more often BOTCHED.  It is the U.S. military that more often conducts "flawlessly executed" operations.  Number 2:  The "deadliest" year is not very deadly, is it?  We seem to see a significant percentage of the Afghan deaths occur in single BUS accidents in the U.S., not to mention SUV accidents with packed illegal immigrants (42,000 deaths PER YEAR on U.S. highways make 101 look pretty small, and those 42,000 represent REAL PEOPLE involved in tragedy, just like the 101 represent individual tragedies for those soldiers and their families).

The despicable AP goes on to illustrate why I say that the left does NOT like the War in Afghanistan, whatever they say.  Already, Democratic "lawmakers" are criticizing the government of Afghanistan.  How long is it going to be before even politicians on the left start saying that the war in Afghanistan is LOST, and that we have to withdraw because the government is not worth supporting?  Not long, I think.  As soon as this election is over.  Leftists like Michael Moore have opposed the Afghanistan operation from the beginning.  This AP story is part of laying the groundwork for declaring DEFEAT in Afghanistan, and withdrawing.  It has the BONUS of supporting the leftist mantra that we have been neglecting Afghanistan (despite the NATO presence there), even though the left is hardly likely to support turning Afghanistan into a major conflict. As stated, the left will FIRST declare the cause lost, blame it on Iraq, and demand we get out.

Watch and see.  WILL Democrats support more extensive commitments to Afghanistan, over a significant period of time?  I think this AP story tells you the answer to that.  In any event, don't hold your breath waiting for the left to wholeheartedly support the U.S. military in Afghanistan.
