Dickens, Leftists, Conservatives, and the Greand Staircase, or Is It Slide, To Hell

I have mentioned earlier "Hard Times"--a bitter, lesser Dickens novel.  Even though the novel reads like an orchestrated, Democratic/leftist indictment of capitalism, and even though the characters in it are cartoons, I have upgraded my rating on "Hard Times" to 59 from 53.  That is because Dickens remains the best English language novelist who ever lived, and paints word pictures--even of cartoon characters existing only to send a message, which is fatal to a really good novel--so vivid that his fictional world seems more real than your own.  (You will note that there is NOTHING new under the sun, including Barack "World" Obama, as leftists have been making the SAME emotional attacks on capitalism and capitalists from the time it began--in the context of "Hard Times", Dickens is a leftist who would not be out of place reincarnated as Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid.)

An example, in "Hard Times" is the Grand Staircase that one of his bitter characters--a fallen woman "aristocrat" who has become a mere servant--creates in her IMAGINATION.  On that Grand Staircase, the young woman character that the older woman hates is DESCENDING (in the old woman's mind)--descending toward a abyss at the bottom of the staircase, as she seems to be heading for moral downfall (adultery) and destruction of her life).  "Down, down, down"  Dickens describes the picture of the young woman on the staircase so lovingly constructed in the mind of the vindictive older woman.  The way Dickens describes it you can see both the vindictive twisted older woman AND the young woman descending that Grand Staircase to Hell in the older woman's mind.

What is the Grand Staircase that leftists create in their minds?  Well, you know very well what it is lately.  For some 8 years now, leftists have visualized President Bush and VP Cheney descending hand in hand down that imaginary Grand Staircase into the abyss at the bottom. Nope.  The main proof of OBSSESSION and HATE (the old woman's kind of hate) is that leftists do not seem to care, and I am convinced they do not care, that the U.S.A. may be descending the same staircase into the same abyss.  In other words, leftists (the fanatic ones who have taken over the Democratic Party) WANTED the U.S.A. to LOSE in Iraq.  They WANTED the U.S. economy to do badly.  They WANTED gasoline prices to rise.  They WANTED misery for the people of this country, so long as Bush and Cheney kept descending that Grand Staircase in their minds.

It is worse than that.  As stated in the weekend Flying, Fickle Finger of Fate award, and in the entries over the last week about the anti-American Associated Press trying to portray the U.S.A. as an evil country because of events 58 years ago in the Korean War, leftists (of the more extreme kind) are merely using the Bush Administration as a bogeyman to push the agenda and ideology they have long pushed.  That agenda is the Reverend Wright agenda that it is the U.S.A. that is the primary source of evil in the world.  In other words, for committed leftists, it is the U.S.A. descending that Grand Staircase into a DESERVED abyss.

Now you might suggest that conservatives are the same--that we want leftists in power to fail.  I don't think this is quite true, even though it is human nature to get some satisfaction about being proven right.  Plus, this blog previously supported Hillary Clinton for President, even against John McCain, on the theory she would be a DISASTER for leftists and the Democratic Party.  True, this means that she would have been a disaster for the country, as well, but this blog repeatedly said that the country could SURVIVE Hillary Clinton (as we survived Bill Clinton), while she would revive the conservative movement.  Meanwhile, conservatives will not likely survive John McCain (in this generation), and I am convinced he will end up no better for the country than Hillary Clinton, even if McCain is slightly better on a strict policy/personal level which will not translate into better GOVERNING.

However, I do not support Barack "World" Obama, even though I believe he will be as bad, or worse, for leftists and Democrats as Hillary Clinton would have been--if elected President.  That is because I do not believe the country can afford the risk of Barac "World" Obama.  There is a significant chance the country will NO survive his Preisidency, in the form that we know it.  Yet, I still can't bring myself to support McCain.  Most conservatives are even more loyal to the country than I am, and are willing to risk McCain rather than turn the country over to EITHER Clinton or Obama.  In short, conservatives do not construct "grand staircases" in their mind HOPING that their political enemies will bring down the country, rather than succeed.  Conservatives believe in the concept of this country.  They WANT the economy to do well.  They believe the system is ultimately the BEST in the world.  They support the country against its enemies, even if a DEMOCRAT is leading us--as conservatives generally supported Clinton both in Iraq (aside from being too timid) and in lplaces like Kosovo.  We did NOT root for the economy to FAIL under Clinton, even though most of us may have despised Clinton (I never did, simply because he did so MUCH for conservatives--more than George Bush 41 could ever have done and more than George Bush 43 did).  Still most conservatives--being more loyal to he lesser evil concept than I.  Now Republican politicians often give the impression that they are only opposing Democrats to undermine Democrats, rather than because they are true conservatives, but conservatives themselves want the country to SUCCEED--even with leftists in charge.

There is one tendency of conservative Christian evangelists that is pretty much identical to the leftist approach to guilt tan punishment, as exhibited by Reverend Wright's expression of the same principle.  I have called it the "Sodom and Gomorrah lesson".  It is the idea that the U.S. may be PUNISHED for moral depravity, such as abortion and approval of homosexual conduct.  The LEFTIST/Reverend Wright idea is that the country will/should be PUNISHED for all of our crimes against "people of color" and the rest of the world--leftists not only regarding the U.S.A. as the main source of evil in the world, but being GUILTY of how rich and powerful this country is (not FAIR, in their view).  This is actually the SAME as the Christian evangelist idea that God may PUNISH this country for our sins.  Leftists fail to recongize the principle is the SAME, but it is.  The difference is that leftists are totally blind to their fantasy view of the world, while most consrevatitves do NOT accept the direct Sodom and Gomorrah principle--in terms of blaming it for every bad thinkg that happens to this country.

As I have said, the Sodom and Gomorrah lesson is ATTRACTIVE.  Don't you often wish, emotionally, that God would come down and TELL leftists, in some dramatic way, what sinners they are?  I know I do.  But conservatives know it is a FANTASY--attractive as it is.  In contrast, leftists LIVE their fantasies, and never let reality intrude.

As I have said before, I am not attracted by any vision of Heaven that has ever been presented to me.  But Hell, and the vengeful God of Sodom and Gomorrah?  Ah, that is a different matter.  Those concepts are ATTRACTIVE.  The vision of EVERY member of the ACLUL, and EVERY emplooyee of the despicable Associated Press, burning forever in Hell--even if along with me--is very attractive.  FOR ALL ENTERNITY.

However, the reason I say that it is LEFTISTS who construct Dickens' Grand Staircases in their minds, because of their hate, while conservatives do not, is that conservatives generally RECOGNIZE fantasy.  We may fantasize about God punishing leftists.  Most of us--even those that believe more in God than I do--do not believe that God operates in such a directly vindictive way (although there IS that fable of Sodom and Gomorrah).

What conservatives DO believe is that leftists are leading us to destruction, and that the central planning delusion is taking over--not to mention the delusion that personal immorality does not affect society at large (35% illegitimacy is a social experiment with our CHILDREN, that they may not survive).  Most conservatives, not merely interested in political power, think we are being exiled into the Wilderness, while the country slides ever closer to a leftist abyss.  But we don't construct a Grand Staircase to gloat over.  We see a SLIDE over the abyss that we are powerless to stop.
