Those Freudian slips! You have to forgive me for first misunderstanding the fluctuating "Finger"--pointing at George McGovern and then a Barack "World" Obama, going back and for th between them in a frenzy. I did not , at first, understand what "the Finger" was trying to tell me.
Yes, it is time again for the award of the Flying, Fickle Finger of Fate: this blog's unauthorized reincarnation of the old "Laugh In" award for the most outstanding example of sheer stupidity and/or lunacy and/or evil during the preceding week. The award is represented by a statuette of an INDEX finger, pointing, meant to represent upon whom or what the spinning "Flying Finger" came to rest this last week.
Yes, again their were multiple candidates. Nancy, "Total Failure" Pelosi came close in her continued, valiant attempt to sabotage the Democratic Party as badly as John McCain and President Bush have sabotaged conservatives and the Republican Party (in that order) See yesterday's entry about Pelosi's attempt yesterday to again show that she is NOT "Mr.--or Mrs.--Smith Goes to Washington". In the process, she again showed that leftist Democrats do NOT believe in either democracy or free speech. Heavy competion.
Not of Barack "world" Obama. I know. There is considerable sentiment out there for me to DISQUALIFY Obama AND the "Anti-American, Despicable Associated Press" from this award on the basis of redundacy, and to give other worthy candidates a chance. Is not Nancy "Total Failure" Pelosi, for example, fully deserving of "the Finger", for example? Yes, but I think she already has ONE (don't remember for sure). In any event, the judges think it would pervert the integrity of "the Finger" to automatically exclude previous winners--even previous multiple winners like Obama and the AP.
See yesterday's entry about Barack "World" Obama and George McGovern. Then see the previous entry today about how Obama is taking his "strategy" from an old TV movie--a "strategy" obviously much older than the movie. How could you deny "the Finger" to this guy?
George McGovern!!!!! He was the candidate who managed to lose to RICHARD NIXON (AFTER Watergate) by about the biggest popular vote landslide in American history (about the same as Johnson-Goldwater) Obama is following in the footsteps of GEORGE MCGOVERN. There was just one direction for "the Finger" to point in this week, even though "the Finger" kept making the point by oscillating between Obama and McGovern.
McGovern promised to give every man, woman and child $1000.00. Obama is only promising to give every couple $1000.00 (except, of course, "the rich"). We, of course, already gave everybody a political BRIBE earlier this year with the supposed "tax rebate" (even though it went to MANY people who paid NO taxes in the first place). Obama, however, felt the need for a FURTHER political BRIBE. Why? You know why. Obama is stuck with that insane, leftist Democrat position that we should not allow additional domestic drilling (not to mention nuclear power, coal plants, oil shale development, etc.). Since leftist Democrats like Obama are STUCK with a "policy" guaranteeing high gasoline prices, and since the public, rightly, does not WAANT high gasoline prices (unlike leftist Democrats), leftist Democrats were forced to try to DECEIVE. Thus, although Obama has said that we will STILL be importing 35% of our oil needs by 2030, under his plan, leftist Democrats have suggested that drilling will take TOO LONG. It wasn't working. It isn't working.
As Lincoln said, you can't fool all of the people all of the time. So Obama HAD to do something. He even was in the position of rejecting John McCain's "gas tax holiday" (NOT a "bribe", because letting us keep our own money is NOT, despite what leftist Democrats say, an "expenditure"). So Obama channeled George McGovern, and proposed this DIRECT BRIBE. After all, it worked for McGovern, didn't it?
Nope. There is no doubt. "The Finger" stopped in the right place this week.

As usual, you need to use the visual aid of IMAGINING Dick Martin presenting this award to the camera on "Laugh In" (which does not imply that Martin would endorse this award, but is a visual aid for the imagination). You could use the Oscar presenter of your choice, for your imagination, but they do not have the sarcastic style that Dick Martin brought to his presentations. Anyway, here is the presentaation:
Imagine Dick Martin THRUSTING "the Finger" at the camera and saying: "Barack "World" Obama, this is for YOU; you DESERVE it. Yes, George McGovern, you deserve it too, even 36 years after the fact, but the VOTERS already gave you your award."
