I live in El Paso, writing this within a few miles of the Mexican border. Juarez, Mexico is right across the Rio Grande.
The DAILY stories continue here about violence in Juarez, and along the Mexican border (on the Mexican side, mainly, but beginning to spill over into the U.S. As I have said, Mexico is a country out of contol--a failed country. Drug cartels virtually control large parts of Mexico--not just on the border. The police are often corrupt. The politicians are often corrupt (even more than in this country). Yet, leftists like the mayor of San Francisco--a city which gave hundreds of thousands of dollars to groups helping CRMINAL illegal immigrants--continue to act like THIS COUNTRY can solve the out of control problems of MEXICO, and that control of the Mexican border is no big deal. Effective control, of course, means control of illegal immigration WITHIN THE UNITED STATES, along with border enforcement.
Last night's story on El Paso news was about a ONE YEAR OLD baby in a stroller being critically injured in the continuing drug cartel wars in Juarez. Now you might think a one year old baby would not be a drug runner, and you would be right. The baby was being walked along in a stroller. However, drug cartel thugs in two moving cars were having a running gun battle, and the driver of one of the cars was shot dead. You guessed it. The out of control car, in an out of control country, ran over the baby in the stroller.
Yes, it IS like the days when Al Capone ran his criminal empire, and gangsters machine gunned each other in the Prohibition U.S.A. The difference is that Mexico has no J. Edgar Hoover or incorruptible FBI. Mexico has no Eliot Ness. Much of Mexico is POORER than depression era America--poorer for no reason other than a FAILED system. Mexico would LIKE to use the U>S. as an outlet for its poor. But there is no way for us to handle the poverty problem of MEXICO, even though leftists here, including Barack "World" Obama would like us to take on that "responsibility". That is the leftist view of America--a country of inexhaustible wealth (for which American leftists are guilty and International leftists angry and/or envious) where the "rich" can take care of all of the people of the world. It does not matter that leftists have to know that is IMPOSSIBLE. That is the way they FEEL--the way they think we ALL should FEEL. This idea of "feeling" over rationality, and of the U.S.A. as an excessively rich user of the word's resources which is EVIL for not sharing its wealth with the entire world, is a peculiarly leftist fantasy. The leftist fantasy is that coercive TRANSFERS of wealth from a successful country, and successful people, can "solve" the problem of poverty for EVERYONE else. Talk about killing the "goose that laid the golden egg"!!!! Mexico has all of this oil revenue and resources, and the economic benefit of NAFTA, and yet has gotten WORSE--despite our aid (not to mention our crazy "policy" of allwing illegal immigration, with much money being sent back to Mexico).
You almost don't hear about problems along the Mexican border from the "Anti-American, Despicable Associated Press" (always use complete, official name the first reference), or on the rest of the mainstream media. The exceptions are Lou Dobbs and OCCASIONALLY on Fox News. The rest of the mainstream media is mainly interested in the LEFTIST agenda of "open borders"--the Barack "World" Obama agenda of "no barriers" between "immigrants" (translation: "illegal immigrants") and "natives" (presumably NOT referring to Native Americans, although the word is really hysterically funny and revealing).
I think the American people genrally, INCLUDING HISPANICS, realize that we cannot afford to allow Mexico's FAILURE to become OUR FAILURE. Yet, our media and leftist establishment, joined by the REPUBLICAN establishment, continues to exist in a fantasy world inside their own heads. It is a fantasy world exposed every day on El Paso news, even as that news is submerged in the leftist "news" of the hardship caused by raids on illegal immigrants, or otherwise pushing the idea of "open borders".
Reality always trumps fantasy, in the end. The question is whether we will SURVIVE the ultimate intrusion of reality into this leftist, Obama fantasy world of "no barriers" between "immigrants" (illegal immigrants: actually/potentially drug cartels, criminals, and the desperate poor--refugees from a FAILED country) and "natives".
